Meet Dr. Knorr

Dr. Knorr grew up in a German speaking family in the US where natural medicine were a first line of treatment. Homeopathic remedies as well as hydrotherapy techniques were commonly used.

He was raised on homemade bread and unpasteurized milk from a local farmer in Iowa. His pediatrician was taken aback when she learned that he had never taken antibiotics as an infant. He grew up in Iowa City, a college town. At home he spoke German and outside the home English. In this way he was raised navigating two worlds. This is true even today where as a Naturopathic doctor he integrates the conventional medical model and the vitalistic natural medical perspective.

He went to a small liberal arts college in Iowa called Grinnell College. He graduated in 1987 with a degree in French with an interest in religious studies.

Dr. Knorr’s interest in natural medicine emerged while taking numerous herbal medicine courses while living in the Bay area in California in the early 1990’s. Dr. Knorr began his yoga and meditation practice during this time.

With all these accumulated interests Dr. Knorr found the National College of Naturopathic Medicine (NCNM) in Portland, Oregon. There he began his four years of studies in medicine and natural therapeutics in earnest in 1992. After graduation in 1996, Dr. Knorr completed a one year residency program in Seattle, Washington at Bastyr University.

Dr. Knorr practiced in Montrose, Colorado, for a year before moving to Utah in 1997. He established the Eastside Natural Health Clinic in 2000 in Salt Lake City.

Dr. Knorr loves to travel and is interested in many cultural traditions. His son holds a MSW degree.

Dr. Knorr loves to learn and being physically active. He has a regular yoga practice and likes to ski, hike, bike and swim.

Meet Rosie

With over four decades of experience across various roles in the medical field, I’ve come to appreciate that Naturopathic Medicine simply makes good sense. I’ve worked alongside cardiologists, acupuncturists, orthopedic specialists, and infectious disease experts, as well as assisted in hospital operating rooms during surgeries.

What sets Dr. Knorr’s patients apart from those I’ve previously worked with is their enthusiasm—they want to be here! They’re actively engaged in improving their health, and it’s incredibly rewarding to hear them say, “I feel so much better!” on a regular basis. Our patients value and trust our approach because it works—something truly priceless in today’s healthcare system.

On a personal note, I’m originally from Southern California, but have called Utah home for over 30 years. I love exploring the state with my husband and our pug dogs. You’ll often find us camping, hiking, or canoeing with fishing poles in tow. And whenever time allows, you’ll find me on a beach—snorkel gear on, soaking up the sun, and smiling!

Holistic Healing with Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine can be described as a powerful fusion of functional medicine and the deep-rooted traditions of natural healing. It is a dynamic system of healthcare that emphasizes whole-body wellness, integrating modern advancements in physiologic testing combined with time-honored naturopathic principles.

Innovations in Physiologic Testing
Recent breakthroughs in medical testing, such as PCR testing, have expanded the diagnostic tools available in naturopathic care. Advanced stool testing now provides deeper insights into gut health, microbiome imbalances, and digestive function. Neurotransmitter testing helps assess brain chemistry and mood disorders, while cutting-edge analyses reveal toxic body burden, identifying heavy metals, endocrine disruptors, and environmental pollutants that may be hindering optimal health. These innovations allow for more personalized, precise interventions tailored to each individual’s unique needs.

The Core Philosophy of Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic medicine weaves together multiple healing concepts to create a comprehensive, holistic approach to health. At its core are several key guiding principles:

The Body’s Innate Ability to Heal
The foundational belief in naturopathic medicine is that the body possesses an intrinsic ability to heal itself when given the right conditions. The mind, body, and soul are constantly striving for homeostasis—an optimal state of balance and vitality. The goal of naturopathic care is to remove barriers to healing and support the body’s natural processes.

Removing Obstacles to Healing
Before true healing can occur, it is essential to identify and address obstacles to cure. This involves asking critical questions:

  • Are there underlying infections or chronic pathogens that need to be treated?

  • Are toxins, heavy metals, or environmental chemicals disrupting the body's systems?

  • Are food allergens, sensitivities, or microbiome imbalances triggering inflammation or dysfunction?

By addressing these root causes, rather than simply managing symptoms, naturopathic medicine fosters long-term, sustainable health.

Lifestyle and Nutrition as the Foundation of Health
Everyday choices—especially in nutrition and movement—play a pivotal role in health and well-being. The body thrives when fueled with nutrient-dense, whole foods, yet suffers when depleted by processed, inflammatory, or nutrient-poor diets. Key considerations include:

  • Food as Medicine — What we consume directly impacts energy, resilience, and healing capacity. Prioritizing high-quality, organic, and minimally processed foods nourishes the body at a cellular level.

  • Movement and Exercise — Physical activity is essential for circulation, detoxification, and mental clarity. The body is designed to move, and regular exercise enhances longevity, mood, and metabolic function.

Supporting Natural Systems for Optimal Function
A core strategy in naturopathic medicine is strengthening and supporting the body’s key systems using targeted nutrients, herbs, and therapeutic interventions. This may include:

  • Liver Support — Enhancing detoxification pathways with botanicals like milk thistle, dandelion root, and glutathione.

  • Adrenal Health — Addressing chronic stress and fatigue with adaptogens such as ashwagandha, rhodiola, and licorice root.

  • Nervous System Regulation — Balancing the brain-body connection with amino acids, magnesium, and calming herbs like chamomile and passionflower.

By reinforcing these foundational systems, naturopathic medicine fosters resilience, vitality, and long-term wellness.

A Multi-Pronged Approach to Healing
T
he guiding principles outlined above form the foundation of naturopathic clinical thinking. Every patient is unique, and healing requires an individualized, multifaceted approach. Dr. Knorr applies these principles daily, carefully assessing each patient’s specific needs and crafting personalized strategies that address the root causes of illness while supporting the body’s natural healing mechanisms.

By taking this comprehensive, whole-person approach, naturopathic medicine delivers effective, sustainable, and transformative results. It is this synergy of traditional wisdom and modern science that gives naturopathic medicine its true power—helping individuals reclaim their health, restore balance, and thrive.

Natural Therapies

Nutrition

I continue to be amazed by how a shift in my patients’ diets can make such a significant difference in their health. One of the most impactful changes I’ve observed comes from avoiding food allergies and sensitivities—this alone can greatly improve gut health, energy levels, and liver function.

We eat every day, and the vitality and quality of what’s on our plate truly matters. While dietary changes aren’t always easy, they are undoubtedly worthwhile. For patients who need additional support, I often refer them to a nutritionist.

Optimizing nutrition through supplementation is also a common part of my treatment approach. These recommendations are uniquely tailored to each patient and may include nutrients that support liver function, the immune system, or the nervous system.

Botanical Medicine

My interest in herbal medicine began over 35 years ago, and I continue to learn about the unique qualities of these medicinal plants. In recent years, I’ve been especially impressed by how effectively they can address both acute and chronic viral conditions that affect many of my patients. During the recent pandemic, these remedies helped patients recover more quickly and provided resolution for those dealing with long-term post viral symptoms. I create custom liquid formulations, known as tinctures, that target specific systems in need of support—such as the nervous, urinary, gastrointestinal, and immune systems. Acute upper respiratory conditions, many of which are viral in nature, often respond particularly well to botanical medicine.

Bodywork

I remain deeply intrigued by the mechanics, fascial components, and energetic qualities of the human body. Over the years, I’ve studied Craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, and yoga, with a strong emphasis on listening to the body’s signals.

I’ve witnessed significant improvement in patients through simple, targeted exercises—seeing conditions like knee pain, low back pain, and neck pain resolve with at-home routines and/or hands-on therapeutic work. When appropriate, I refer patients to physical therapists or chiropractors for additional support.
